T.K. and Jon are native Californians and former San Francisco residents. Yet something was missing. T.K. and family moved to Oahu in 2020, and Jon followed in 2024 (based on T.K.'s invite and his realtor wife Izzi Chan's listing of an affordable studio condo near HoMA). Contrary to perception, Oahu is comparable to CA in overall living costs.
Honolulu is a modern U.S. city of 980,000, with a steady, dreamy climate, a world-class airport (HNL) and all the modern amenities (food, culture, arts) that a resort destination provides. Jon has flown nonstop to Denver, Atlanta, Boston and Minneapolis (United just added a DC nonstop) He is a subscriber to Hawaii Opera Theater and enjoys a thriving local poetry scene.
There's something in the air (salt ions) that fosters creativity and collaboration. The quality of life is high, the schools are great, and the upside opportunities are undiscovered. Oahu is a blank canvas, waiting for the artist's attention.
